Saint Patrick’s day is upcoming in the calendar! There are many ways that you can make Saint Patrick’s day fun and engaging for you loved one, and have them celebrate the holiday. Also, did you know that 149 million people in the US celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? (Medill Spiegel Research Center, 2018). Let’s keep your Senior’s spirits up by celebrating the upcoming holiday! The holidays for seniors are especially important. Holidays mean fun activities to look forward to, time with family, and holiday spirit.” (Caring Places, 2018).
What are some fun ways to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day for Seniors?
We will include some fun activities that you can do to get your loved one in the Irish mood! Below you will find our easy and recommended activities that you can keep your seniors engaged!
- In addition, have your Senior wear green! Pick out a green festive outfit to lift their spirits!
- Furthermore, get creative and create some artwork! Art can be a great way to improve memory care and strengthen your loved one’s cognitive skills; all while creating a memorable piece of artwork!
- Have a potluck with Irish themed foods such as corn beef and cabbage! Keep it delicious with Celtic inspired foods or make them their favorite foods that are green!
- Further play some Celtic music for your Senior! This is an easy way for your Senior to celebrate the holiday, and listen to some music to liven their spirits!
- Give your loved one a Luck of the Irish themed holiday card to keep them in a festive spirit! This is a great way to show them that you remembered them during the holiday.
- Next, decorate their room with green decorations! If your Senior has mobility issues, this a great way to keep it festive for them.
- Lastly, have them do Irish themed Luck of the Irish exercises to keep them active and fit! Have them get their exercise in for the day. Incorporating a daily exercise routine will ensure they stay fit!
