Did you know that the place where you live can directly impact your mental health?
Several factors such as aesthetics, sensory, people, culture, values, and familiarity with the location that your Senior lives can all impact your Senior’s mental health. (Very Well, 2024).
Also, you can help ensure that your Senior’s living space is not impacting their mental health!
Follow these suggestions to make sure that your Senior’s Home Sweet Home is bringing them joy!
- First: When you visit them, make sure that where they are located is clean and organized.
- Secondly: Hang seasonal decorations to bring them joy in the room where they spend the most amount of time.
- Thirdly: Make sure they have plenty of natural light, and their room is not dark.
- Fourthly: Ensure that your loved one can enjoy fresh air, if possible.
- Fifthly: Provide night lights to light up walkways to prevent falls.
- Sixthly: Personalize their room to best accommodate their current needs. If their room is difficult for them to navigate, make sure that they have the accessibility that they need for their current condition.
- Lastly: If a piece of furniture can no longer suit their needs, keep only current furniture that they can utilize.
Helping your Senior make their home functional for them will help make them happy and less stressed! It can take only a short amount of time to make your loved one’s day!
